Teenagers and adults collected more than 300 blankets, bedding and socks for the homeless at Hope Harbor shetler in Lodi on Jan. 20.

Sikh temple leaders and youngsters are making a conscious outreach effort in the larger community, in hopes of being better understood as hard-working and peace-loving people, according to temple leaders.

Sikhs gather every Sunday at the temple at Armstrong Road and West Lane in Lodi. In 2012, the Stockton Sikh temple celebrated its 100th anniversary.
