What a fantastic Day at the Pool event! We paid for the first 200 kids up to age 12 on Saturday, June 6 (at the Goya Aquatic Center in Galt). Their parents were so grateful, and the kids were so excited!

We also gave away 200 hot dogs, chips, and water meals. We barbecued the hot dogs next door in Chabolla Park, and served the food and drinks inside the pool area. People started lining up at 12:15 p.m. for the 1 p.m. pool opening, and we were there until about 3:30.

Thank you to Kathy E. for taking charge of the food, including purchasing, transporting, and barbecuing.

Thank you to Ryan and Christie for manning the food giveaway inside the pool area.

Thank you to Mark and John for shuttling the food and water from the barbecue area to the pool area.

We LOVED this event (despite the heat), and hope to do it again — if not this summer, then for sure next summer!

When I told some sixth-grade girls that the hot dogs were free, one of them said, “I’ve been waiting for this day to come!”

There was a fourth-grade boy waiting outside the pool for his friend to come out because he didn’t have any money to get in, and when I told him it was free, his face lit up and he got in line to go in. Then, when I told him he could also get free hot dog, chips, and water, you’d have thought he won the lottery!
