Kevin Harcourt has always had a passion for serving the community. In 2002 he retired from the Galt Fire Department and then founded the “Fire and Life Safety Center” to teach fire safety. Then after seeing the devastating effect the economic downturn created on regular people and families, and the increase in homelessness, Kevin and his wife Donna decided to take action.
The founded Project Love with the goal of providing the homeless in our communities with haircuts, showers, meals, clothing, resume development and assistance in filling out job applications to help them implement life changes that will lead to self sufficiency.
According to Kevin, the homeless in our community found themselves in difficult times for many different reasons. He wants people to know that it can happen to anyone, and that many homeless people are no different than the average person.
In his experience, he has encountered homeless persons who are college graduates, military personnel, and other professionals. In some cases, they were pushed into homelessness due to catastrophic illness costs, divorce, or other day to day life issues. While others found themselves homeless due to alcohol and/or drug abuse.
Each Friday at 6:00pm, Kevin and Donna lead a team of volunteers that provide services to homeless citizens of Galt. They spend time with these citizens, get to know them and their situations, and try to implement positive steps to get them back on track in their lives. They are always looking for more volunteers, be it people to help on Fridays or services such as cooking, baking and cutting hair.
Kevin and Donna will speak about Project Love at the Lodi Sunrise Rotary Club at 7:00am on Wednesday, October 23rd at the Woodbridge Golf and Country Club. If you would like to attend, please contact Lodi Sunrise Rotary Club at firstname.lastname@example.org.
