Junior League of San Joaquin County will provide every student with an iPad in two 3rd grade (Title 1) classes in Lodi Unified School District for the 2014-15 school year. This follows last year’s donation of a 1st and 3rd grade classroom donation of 33 iPads per class. The impact from these two classes with the iPads was so positive, that Junior League elected to continue with their donation.

Last year’s 3rd grade recipient teacher, Nicole Milligan reported, “I think you will be pleased when you see the data (scores). In particular the overall growth in mastery in English Language Arts and the overall growth in students who memorized all their times tables was dramatic. iPads really maximize student engagement and instructional minutes. I am very appreciative.”

Junior League President, Nicole Goehring states, “The goal is to get as many students as possible proficient in reading and math by 3rd grade, which will help build the foundation for a stronger community. The iPad donation is a result of Junior League’s fund-raising efforts through their signature TWICE IS NICE massive Rummage Sale (1st Saturday in March) with matching funds from a private Lodi donor.

The impact on learning, improved class management, and student interest was phenomenal. The students loved using the iPads, striving to achieve higher and higher levels on the program software, "playing" their way to improved reading, writing, spelling, and math skills. The monthly test scores of these classes showed impressive improvements and both teachers and students expounded on the value of these devices as a learning/teaching tool. Junior League and the classrooms are excited to provide updates on the success of these classes throughout the 2014-15 school year.
