One hundred years ago, the University of California started to found clubs for young men and women to study animals and crop production. As the years passed and the 4-H clubs grew with our communities needs, the members continued to compete in animal contests and study how to run households and farms. The 4-H clubs also encouraged record book keeping that continues to this day.

This year, several 4-H members of the Alpine Victor 4-H received record book awards at the county level. These books are judged on the activities the members participated in, how they studied their project, and the amount of time involved in each project. This year, many of the projects included pages on the Internet. Many members are also judged on the leadership skills they develop each year in their project and in their club offices. Their names are listed below.

Each year, the San Joaquin County 4-H office gifts many scholarships to students who are demonstrating 4-H values in their college careers. This year, the county gave over $8,000 to former 4-H members who applied and are currently attending college. One of the former Alpine Victor students is a University of the Pacific student. Sarah Donald credits her leadership skills and success in college to her years in Alpine Victor 4-H club.  She was awarded the Albert C. Bizzini Memorial Scholarship.

The fair this year was during the last week of school in October, and many 4-Hers had trouble attending school and attending to their animals at the fair. They needed to be at the fair early in the morning and late in the evening to feed, clean stalls and show their animals. There were two very special Alpine Victor members who happen to have the fair week off of school, helped out many of the Alpine Victor members and FFA members to care for their animals. Their names are Thomas Collier and Andrew Strootman. These young men showed the true friendship and leadership skills that 4-H has been known for the past 100 years.
