Col. Laura Yeager of the California National Guard, who recently returned from service in Afghanistan, spoke at the American Association of University Women’s “Be Informed” meeting about her experiences in the military. She said she loves her career, where she serves in a medical unit, and that the military is committed to providing state-of-the-art medical help to wounded troops.

She answered questions about suicide and sexual harassment. She said that her unit is proactive in providing intervention to any trooper who seems to be exhibiting signs of financial or family problems or depression. In response to concerns about the documentary “The Invisible War,” Col. Yeager said that there have been only two instances of rape complaints in her unit, and of those two, one perpetrator was convicted and one complaint was dismissed for lack of evidence.
