Liberty Oaks Pony Club members have had a fun and busy summer. To start off, Trevor Ravera got a new horse, Indy, who he loves! From July 4 to 7, members with their horses and families traveled to Eventful Acres in Oregon House for the club’s annual family camp.

There they practiced their dressage by learning and then performing quadrilles for their parents and friends.

Two mothers also participated, Laura Weisman Olagary on Corona and Ann Fickert, on Tokay and Hana.

The cross country courses were enjoyed by all as there were jumps available for all skill levels. LOPC riders and horses attending were Lizzie Fickert riding Hana, Rachel Ravera on Calvin, Trevor Ravera with Indy, Lindsey McKinney and Guru, Savannah Spears with Jace, Sophie Weisman on Queen, Miranda Olagary riding Sugar, Esther Taylor on Cherry Pie, Kaitlin Ramos and Remy, Priya Eslinger on Earl and Ashley Buck on Mister. Liz Jenner provided instruction for both dressage and cross country and Fickert taught them how to make tooled leather belts.

Returning to Eventful Acres the next weekend for certification testing were Lindsey McKinney, Rachel Ravera and Lizzie Fickert along with Hanna Lingo. Lingo and McKinney earned their C1 certificates and Ravera her C2 certificate. Ravera and Fickert remained for Sierra Pacific’s Regional Camp for three days for additional instruction towards their C3 certifications. Back in Acampo, members continued their riding and attending their regularly scheduled meetings on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays at Gateway Farm on Collier Road.

On July 24, two LOPC grandmothers, Helen Lakso and Nancy Jo Jensen traveled to Kalispell, Mont. to watch Lakso’s granddaughter Kayla Ramsdell Riesberg, an alumnus of Liberty Oaks Pony Club and Traditional Certified and Life Member of United States Pony Club, show two horses at the Rebecca Farm Horse Trials. Over 600 horses participated in this prestigious event and many riders were USPC Alumni.

Continuing with summer events, the Aug. 10 meeting included a sponsors meeting of parents and friends of LOPC to help plan for next year and a farewell party for Fickert and Rivera, who will be going off to College. The next day, Rachel and Trevor Ravera, Kaitlin Ramos, Ashley Buck, Sophie Weisman and Miranda Olagary took their horses to Pacific Equestrian Center for their first dressage show accompanied by their coach Liz Jenner, parents and grandparents.

Their next challenges will be in October as ratings for D1, D2 and D3 certifications will be offered which will include a riding test and a written/oral horse management exam. Liz Jenner, Ann Fickert and C level riders will be helping members prepare for these tests.
