The Lodi Garden Club is in the midst of celebrations. On Nov. 2, the club celebrated its 65th birthday. And on Dec. 6, the club will have its annual Christmas luncheon at Woodbridge Golf and County Club. Social hour will be at 11:30 a.m., followed by lunch at noon. Festivities will include Christmas music, arranged by Carol Marvel, parliamentarian and scholarship chairperson. Members are reminded that reservations must be made by Thursday with the club treasurer, Esther Kreth at 367-1544.

A four-scene “playlet” marked the anniversary celebration, featuring the highlights of the club’s history from the days of hats and gloves through the club’s affiliations and projects to the present day’s more casual dress — and the addition of men members. A number of members, equipped with appropriate props, appeared in the various scenes. President Jeannette Moore accepted proclamations and resolutions from the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors, presented by Craig Ogata, director of parks and recreaton, and from the city of Lodi, presented by Mayor Bob Johnson. Other recognitions came from the state and national garden clubs.

Twenty-year membership certificates went to Joice Mettler, Gladys Peterson and Helen Salisbury. Charter member Virginia Wagers sent a note of congratulations. There were 15 past club presidents who were present or represented, and each brought her president’s scrapbook, compiled during her term, for members to browse through and reminisce over.
