On June 2 through 4, Lodi Elks Lodge No. 1900 donated their grounds to several Scout troops who undertook the “Trail to First Class” program. This program is boy lead and driven and has older Scouts teach newer Scouts who have just "bridged" from Cub Scouts, life learning skills.

John Boger, of Troop 291, heads the program and is assisted by Scout Leaders Gabriela McKeown, of Troop 199 and Charlene and Chris Lee, both of Troop 291.

The program introduces the Scouts to flag presentation, first aid and why it is important to know (includes chocking, signs of heart attack, CPR, etc), building their own first aid hurry cases (includes band aids, mouth guards, hand sanitizers, antiseptic) basic first aid essentials, how to whip and fuse rope, knot tying and the importance of when it is used, usage of the ax and saw, knife safety, drug, alcohol and tobacco abuse, food pyramid, uniform inspections, map and compass, physical fitness, fire safety, how to build a fire and put it out and a great deal more.

The Elks are pleased to donate their facilities for this type of program which enhances the lives of our youth.
