The Lodi Sunrise Rotary Club’s 6th Annual “McCauley Tom Turkey Drive” netted $1,300 which enabled the club to purchase 148 turkeys with a little help from Food4Less.
Club President Richard Ross, and fellow Lodi Sunrise Rotarians, presented over 2,500 pounds of “gobbler” to three local charities including 96 birds to the Salvation Army, 26 birds to the LOEL Senior Center, and 26 birds to Building Blocks.
The Turkey’s will help both organizations provide a traditional Thanksgiving dinner for many needy families in our community this year.
“The Lodi Sunrise Rotary Club is proud to again continue our tradition of purchasing and distributing turkeys for Thanksgiving”, said president Richard Ross. “Our club members’ generosity was extended by some additional discounts from Food4Less to help us meet the need this year!”
As in years past, turkeys were purchased from Lodi’s Food4Less, which agreed to sell the birds at cost to help in the effort.
Tom McCauley, a Lodi Sunrise Rotary Club charter member, spearheaded the turkey drive again this year. McCauley, after whom the turkey drive is lovingly named, has long been considered “the biggest turkey in the club,” said Past President Ralph Cesena Jr (whom began the turkey drive in 2008).
“The generous donations of our club and club members is something to be proud of”, added President Ross. “Once again, our club proves itself to be the “Best Darned Rotary Club in Lodi!’”
