The Elks National Foundation provides more than $3.64 million in college scholarships each year and The Grand Lodge Americanism Committee annually sponsors two Americanism essay contests, one for fifth- and sixth-graders and one for seventh- and eighth-graders.

This very important patriotic contest gives school children the opportunity to express their views on America and what being a patriotic citizen means. In addition, cash awards are presented to the winners at the local, district, state and national levels.

The winners for the contest sponsored by the Lodi Elks Lodge No. 1900 this year from eighth-grade classes at Millswood Middle School were Daniel Anaforian, Julia Johnson and Shane Halligan.

Next school year, we will again be looking for schools wanting to participate. If interested, please contact the Elks Lodge Americanism chairperson at 369-3291.
