New officers of Soroptimist International of Lodi were installed by long-time member Beverly Lacy on June 19 at Dee Dee’s Restaurant in Lodi. Special guests at the installation were Pat Jones, the governor elect of Sierra Pacific region; Sherry Pearson, current governor; and JoAnn Vear, past governor.
The officers for 2012-13 are Susan Brazil, president; Lynn Hendricks, vice president; Ora Hoover, treasurer; Deb Miller, corresponding secretary; Bernice Schmiedt, recording secretary; and Germaine and Phyllis Almendarez, directors.
Long term member Merry Donahue was presented the Soroptimist of the Year Award for her active support of the club for many years. Donahue is a past president and has been a member since 1989. She has also served on the region board of directors.
President Brazil presented a donation of $1,000 to Lodi House Executive Director Suzanne Mangum. In May, the club bid farewell to member Capt. Kim Williams, of the Salvation Army, and made a donation of $1,000 to Hope Harbor.
A social cheese tasting and Women’s Night Out is planned for October at Cheese Central, Fashion Safari and Lodi Cooks on School Street. Potential members and the public are invited to attend. There will be a Bingo Night at the Masonic Lodge in Woodbridge on Oct. 24.
New members Karen West, Tory Martin and Janine Wiley will be inducted in September.
The new club year begins on Sept. 11. The new location for the meetings and lunch is the Richmaid Restaurant on Cherokee Lane. Meetings are held at noon on the second, third and fourth Tuesdays of each month from September until June.
The name Soroptimist means “best for women.” The organization’s mission is to improve the lives of women and girls in local communities and throughout the world.
