California Highway Patrol, in conjunction with Lodi Elks Lodge No. 1900, held a mature “Age Well…Drive Smart” program at the Elks Lodge. This program is a cooperative effort between the CHP, the Department of Motor Vehicles and the old driver community. The class was free and open to the public, but was specifically geared to mature drivers over the age of 65.

The class provided tips on how to be a more prepared traveler and what to look for in order to drive safer. It also provided a website to help increase your memory and attentive skills. One of those websites is www.lumosity.com. Coffee and water was set up by the Elks and many of their members showed up for this class, which was conducted by Officer James Smith and Senior Volunteer Glen Pitts. At the end of the session, every participant was presented a certificate of completion, which could possibly reduce car insurance payments from certain companies.
