In early December, the Lodi Lake Nature Area Docents celebrated their 27th annual docent awards and Christmas potluck dinner, held in Lodi.

The docents were honored by parks staff for their many years of service leading school tours on the nature trails at Lodi Lake Park including the 2012-13 school year. A total of 1,509 students enjoyed the docents’ enthusiasm as they were led with their school class along 1.5 miles of river and lakeside trails.

A nature gift exchange was then held and new docent Carol Willson surprised the group with her rendition of the "‘Twas the Night Before Christmas” metered poem about the nature area, called “An Owl’s Eye View”, inspired by the wooden owl she gave as a gift.

Certificates for service were given as follows for the 2012-13 docents: Jay and Kathy Bell, 27 years; Grover Bethards, 13 years; Mary Fuhs, 12 years; Tom Goad, 7 years; Kathy Grant, 26 years; Marilyn Hughes, 6 months; Laura Kepner, 6 months; Virginia Moore, 10 years; Norm Page, 3 years; Dorana Prohaska, 2 years; Robert Rasmussen, 3 years; Larry Vivian, 3 years; Norm and Toni Walker, 12 years; Carol and Randi Willson, 6 months.
