Rotary Clubs of Lodi and Galt hosted the annual Area One Rotary Club Speech Contest on March 6. Five students participated in the contest and represented the area high schools.

The event was held at the Century 21 M&M Realty office in Lodi. The local Toastmasters judged the speech contest.

Bradley Wright, a junior at Lodi High School, was the first-place winner of the speech contest. Wright is the son of Mark and Carie Hamilton, of Lodi. The topic of the speech, “Reach Within to Embrace Humanity,” was selected by the Rotary District Gov. Dave Mantooh and is the Rotary International theme for 2011-12.

Fifty Rotary clubs in the district held local club contests. The club winners spoke in 12 area speech contests held throughout the district in February and March. The top speakers from these area contests will compete in the finals, to be held on April 21 at the district conference in Modesto.

All the speakers gave interesting talks on how they, others and Rotary International must work to better serve humanity.
