On a rainy Thursday morning, April 4th, The Lodi Garden Club dedicated a Blue Star Memorial Marker at Cherokee Memorial Park. The marker honors men and women who serve our country in the military — past, present and future. The program was opened with a welcome by Jeanette Moore, president of Lodi Garden Club.
The program included Chad Donley, Chaplain of the Lodi American Legion Post 22, the Travis Honor Guard presenting the colors, Lodi Mayor, Alan Nakanishi, a veteran, and The Marker acceptance by Dan Stanley who represented Cherokee Memorial Cemetery. Other guests included Lodi Disabled American Veterans Post 59, Lodi American Legion Post 22, and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Unveiling and dedication of The Marker was by Julie West, president of California Garden Clubs.
After the program, guests gathered at Micke Grove's Julie Harrison Memorial Building for lunch and a demonstration of the folding of the American Flag at military funerals. The cost of the Blue Star Marker was paid by members of the Lodi Garden Club through special projects. The memorial committee included Betty Pfeifle, Sandy Beglau, Elizabeth Gooding, Rose Hayles, and Jeanette Moore.
