Lodi Elks offer scholarships to college, vocational students

The Elks Lodge is offering the following scholarships for the 2012-13 year:

Most Valuable Student Scholarships are available online at www.elks.org/enf/scholars every Sept. 1. A total of three boys and three girls from the Lodi/Galt area can obtain a four-year scholarship ranging from $1,000 per year to $15,000 per year for graduating high school seniors. Students are judged on financial need, leadership and scholarship. Any high school senior who is a citizen of the United States is eligible to apply. Applicants do not need to be related to an Elk member. Online applications are due Dec. 2 to your guidance counselor or at the Elks lodge, located at 19071 N. Lower Sacramento Road, Woodbridge. These applications must be signed off at the local lodge.

Chea Vocational Grants (occupational training) are available all year. Applications must be processed within 90 days. The grants are for one year with an option to renew for one additional year. The purpose of the grant is to assist students wih a minimum of two years of study. High school diploma or GED is not required. The grants are not limited to high school students. Applications can be obtained online at www.chea-elks.org. Applications must be signed off at the Lodi Lodge, located in Woodbridge.

Chea — Students with Disabilities Grants are available for any high school senior with a disabilitiy or any person who graduated from high school with a disability and who has never enrolled in a higher education format. The grant is $1,000 for one year and is rewable for one more year, for a $2,000 total. Applications begin Nov. 15 and are due by March 15, 2013. Applications can be obtained online at www.chea-elks.org.

Legacy Awards are one-year merit-based scholarships ($1,000) per year renewable for a total of four years. This is for children or grandchildren of Elks who are members in good standing. Applications are available online by Sept. 1. Applications will be entirely online through the lodge that will be sponsering the student for ID information. The applicant must be a high school senior.
