Liberty Oaks Pony Club held its annual sponsors meeting on a
recent Sunday afternoon. New officers elected for 2012 are Steve
Spears, district commisioner; Ann Fickert, Jt. DC; Janine Amario,
secretary; and Sheryl Ravera, treasurer.
Retiring DC Lori Mareno gave a report on the year’s activities
commending Kayla Ramsdell, Veronica Tippie and Rachel Ravera for
qualifying and attending the Pony Club National Championships and
Festival in Lexington, Kent., where they won first place for horse
management for developing horse and rider.
The club held its mounted meeting on Saturday at Gateway Farm. At
the meeting, Rachel Ravera, Savannah Spears and Lizzie Fickert and
their ponies were schooled in dressage and stadium jumping by
instructor Liz Jenner. Esther Taylor, Shannon Yount and Trevor
Ravera learned how to make shipping wraps for their horses. During
their lessons, the previous riders completed the wraps and after
lunch, all riders practiced putting them on the horses. Parents
present included Sheryl Ravera, Ann Fickert, Marcie Spears and Mary
Elizabeth Yount, along with sponsor Helen Lakso.
Some upcoming events for the club are the Tetrathalon Clinic,
Christmas Party and Mock Horse Management Rating for D3-C2 members.
The club will be helping with a D Rally in the spring. Lynn du
Celliee Muller, regional supervisor for Sierra Pacific Region,
which includes Liberty Oaks, gave a report on some rule revisions
for 2012.
To support club activities, the members will be selling Christmas
Wreaths and Olive Oil at the craft fair at the Lodi Woman’s Club on
Saturday. To order, call Ann Fickert at 367-1915.
The club will be going to Novato on Nov. 26 to participate in a
one-day pentathlon clinic. Coaching will cover running, swimming,
riding, fencing and shooting. It is open to adults and youths. The
cost is $50 and includes lunch and use of a mount. For more
information, email ejones67@comcast.net.
Girls and boys interested in joining Pony Club can contact Steve
Spears at 916-684-0207, Ann Fickert at 367-1915 or instructor Liz
Jenner at Gateway Farm at 759-9700.
