In the December meeting of the Lodi City Council, outgoing Mayor JoAnne Mounce presented the 2008 Mayor's Community Service Award to the Lodi Community Band. The award was given in recognition of the band's ongoing contribution of free concerts featuring a variety of musical selections throughout the year in the Lodi area.

In accepting the award, Band Conductor Robert E. Gross thanked the mayor and pointed out that the Lodi Community Band is an all-volunteer organization of musicians of all ages and that it continues a Lodi tradition that dates back to the 1870s.

In other Lodi Community Band news, it was announced that two premier concerts will be presented on May 3 when the world renowned Herald Trumpets of the United States Army Band in Washington D.C. will be in Lodi to perform with the Lodi Community Band.

The Herald Trumpets perform during a variety of official government activities honoring the president and visiting foreign dignitaries. They can be seen playing during the upcoming presidential inauguration on Jan. 20.

Details of the concerts are still being developed and will be released as formalized in the following weeks. Any questions may be directed to Band Conductor Robert Gross at 334-0505 or Band Announcer Ron Rader at 368-0612.
