More than 100 women attended the Lodi Branch American
Association of University Women’s Authors’ Tea, which was held on
April 9 to raise funds for scholarships for senior girls at all
four Lodi Unified School District high schools and for middle
school girls to attend Tech Trek science/math summer camp.
Attendees enjoyed tea and cookies while listening to five local
authors reveal their personal experiences with the writing process
and about how they became published.
The authors included Nancy Claus, who writes children’s books,
and true to her name, feature Christmas stories; Danna Smith, also
a children’s author, whose most recent work is a counting book
featuring zoo animals; Debra Ann Ristau, who has published several
non-fiction books with her latest being about Lodi wine and
wineries; Susan Crosby, a romance writer, who has four books being
published this year; and Robin Burcell, who currently writes
contemporary crime novels using her experience as a police officer
in the Lodi Police Department as well as her training as a forensic
artist and as a hostage negotiator, to make her books realistic as
well as entertaining.
Autographed books from all the authors were available for
purchase.
The event was co-chaired by Audrey Churhill and Joanne
Hildenbrand and tables were decorated by members using their own
tea services.
