American Association of University Women member Sylvia Mayorga recently presented two programs at the Lodi AAUW Be Informed interest group. Mayorga is a native of Peru and received her Bachelor of Arts in social sciences/social anthropology from the Portificia Universidad Catolica del Peru.
In her initial multimedia presentation, she examined the historical and geographical influences on Peruvian culture and civilization. In the second presentation, which included a PowerPoint trip through Peru, she expanded on how those influences have resulted in Peru as it is today.
Be Informed meets on the first Thursday of every month and is one of a number of interest groups available in Lodi AAUW. It is typically attended by members who seek to broaden their knowledge in a wide range of areas. Usually, a guest speaker addresses the group and responds to questions. Some past topics have included a long term study of water issues in our local area and the state, health care reform, high speed rail in California and examining non-partisan political issues during election periods.
Other interest and activity groups for Lodi AAUW members include the book group, Bunco, couples dinner group, girls night out, movie/lunch bunch, Les Madames Francaise/French Group and day trippers.
