American Steel Car Club presents checks to eight non-profit organizations

On Dec. 14, 2014, the American Steel Car Club presented $500 checks to eight non-profit organizations. They were the Lodi Salvation Army, Lodi House, the Lodi Moose Lodge, Animal Friends Connection, LOEL Senior Center, One Eighty Teen Center, the Lodi Boys and Girls Club and Relay for Life. The money was raised at the Aug. 9 annual Stuck in Lodi Classic Car Show on School Street in downtown Lodi. This was the 19th annual car show. The car show this year will be on Aug. 1.

Lodi Branch of the AAUW to hold its annual bunco party

The Lodi Branch of AAUW (American Association of University Women) will host its 4th annual Bunco party on March 7 at Vinewood Community Church from 12:30 to 4 p.m. The party will feature Bunco, prizes, vendors, desserts, and a raffle, as well as lots of fun. Tickets are $20 and may be purchased from any AAUW member prior to the event.

Lodi Elks Lodge holds annual Christmas party

On Dec.14, Lodi Elks Lodge No.1900 held its annual children’s Christmas party. Thanks to Nancy Politano, chairperson of this event, everyone had a great time, especially the 30 children who attended. The children got to listen to Suzanne Henderson read the classic tale, “The Night Before Christmas”, then Santa arrived with stocking gifts for all, which was provided by Penny Knapp representing the AT&T Pioneer Volunteers who made up the stockings. Cupcake decorating was provided by Julie Traxler for the children to enjoy. Pizzas, salad, fruit, cookies, soda and punch was provided by the Elks with the assistance of volunteer food servers Nancy Sanguinetti and Mike and Eileen Dugan. Rose Deak and Dottie Thompson were Santa’s elf helpers passing out the gifts. Jim Miller, as Santa, gave hugs and big jolly laughs to all the children on his lap.

Lodi Elks donate to the Lodi Boys and Girls Club

On Nov. 25, the Lodi Elks Lodge No. 1900, in our continuing commitment to the community, proudly made a $1,000 donation to the Boys and Girls Club of Lodi. Doing the presentation on behalf of the Elks was Charlene Johnson, Exalted Ruler. Earlier in the week, the Elks Lodge donated its facilities to cook eight turkeys for the Boys and Girls Club’s Thanksgiving dinner. Jeff Lodi also helped serve food for them later that evening.

Lodi Elks holds annual Gin Fizz

On Nov. 16, Lodi Elks Lodge held its annual Gin Fizz Brunch under the guidance of Jim Norton, chairman of this event. Food was great thanks to the cooks: Marion Tindle, Jim Norton, Debera Sutherland and Sandy Simmons, who also served the food. Bob Owen did a wonderful job setting up the tables and the raffle gift table.

Lodi Memorial Hospital Founation donates to Walter Reiss Outreach program

Each year the Lodi Memorial Hospital Foundation donates a portion of the proceeds from the Russell Steele Golf Tournament, held at Woodbridge Golf and Country Club, to the Walter E. Reiss Outreach Care (WEROC) program. The 2014 tournament chairs, Mike Georguson and Carolyn Hoff, presented the Foundation’s check to Pam Schneider, executive director and administrator of WEROC.

Lodi Republican Women to install new officers

On Wednesday, the Lodi Republican Women will hold its biannual Installation of Officers at the Woodbridge Golf and Country Club. Installing officer and guest speaker will be California Federation of Republican Women President Roseann Slonsky-Breault. Lodi Elks donates pull tabs for Ronald McDonald House

Lodi Elks Lodge No. 1900, with help from Dan Miller and the Lodi Women’s Club, donated several containers filled with aluminum pull tabs which weighed more than 120 pounds.

Elks seeking applications for educational scholarships

For the academic year 2015-16, the California-Hawaii Elks Major Project, Inc. (CHEA) Board of Trustees will offer $48,000 in undergraduate educational scholarships for students with disabilities throughout the state of California and Hawaii.

Soroptimists hold Western themed dinner

Soroptimist International of Lodi recently held a Western themed dinner and dance at the Moose Lodge. Courteney Karger chaired the event. There were more than 100 members and friends who enjoyed the evening. The event included many raffle prizes and fantastic music. Proceeds from the event will help the Lodi Soroptimist Club give awards and opportunities to women and girls in the community! Members of the Tokay High School girls wrestling team served the meal prepared by Dickey's.
