In the 24 hours after 9 a.m. Sunday, the Lodi Police Department handled 290 calls for police and fire service. The following is a sample of calls received by dispatchers:


Confusing a cashier

11:04 a.m. - A man tried to confuse a cashier and walk away with $40 extra at IHOP, 1230 W. Kettleman Lane.

Dog Bite

4:44 p.m. - A pit bull bit a man at the back of Golden Era Hotel, 15 S. Main St.

Stolen Van

5:24 p.m. - A yellow 1999 Dodge Caravan was stolen during the night in the 200 block of Eden Street.

Grass Fire

8 p.m. - Orange flames could be seen from a grass fire east of the railroad tracks near Kettleman Lane and Stockton Street.

Damaged church sprinklers

9:21 p.m. - Six males, either young adults or teens, kicked and damaged sprinklers at United Congressional Christian Church, 701 S. Hutchins St., then left the scene.

Domestic Violence

10:05 p.m. - Police were called two hours after a domestic fight on South Washington Street because a female took a male's phone so he couldn't call. Police arrested a 56-year-old woman for domestic violence.

11:46 p.m. - Liquid was thrown on a female's face during a domestic altercation in the 500 block of North Church Street.


Residential Burglaries

7:07 a.m. - A home was burglarized in the 500 block of Hummingbird Drive.

3:16 p.m. - Someone broke into a home in the 1200 block of South Lee Avenue. Police arrested a juvenile.

Confused delivery driver

11:25 a.m. - They hadn't been ordered, but brand-new garage doors were left inside a garage in the 1300 block of West Century Boulevard. The resident soon learned that the doors had been delivered to the wrong home.

Computer Thefts

12:21 p.m. - A Melby Drive man suspected his son-in-law of stealing a laptop valued at more than $400.

6:29 p.m. - Someone stole a laptop valued at more than $400 at Salon Lodi, 312 S. Fairmont Ave.


2:44 p.m. - A 27-year-old woman was caught shoplifting at Rancho San Miguel, 620 S. Cherokee Lane.

7:23 p.m. - Security detained two females for shoplifting at Big Kmart, 520 S. Cherokee.

Drunken, sick woman

5:29 p.m. - A drunken woman was vomiting into a trash can at Hutchins Street Square, 125 S. Hutchins St. She tried to start an argument with people in the park area, and then she stumbled away.

Penny Eater

6:28 p.m. - After eating a penny, a 7-year-old Flora Street resident was having trouble breathing and had throat pain.

Diverted Thieves

10:25 p.m. - Six people tried to steal bicycles in the 1300 block of West Lockeford Street. A witness chased them off, and they left in a green Dodge truck.


11:14 p.m. - After police received a fifth call in one day about a man bothering a resident in the 500 block of East Tokay Street, a 26-year-old man was arrested for making threats and being under the influence of drugs.


Drugs and stolen property

2:02 a.m. - A man and a woman had stolen property and drugs in the 200 block of Houston Lane.

Plastic in the ear

8:20 a.m. - An elderly South Washington man had a piece of plastic hearing aid stuck in his ear and wanted rescue personnel to help. Their assistance was soon canceled.
