In the 24 hours since 9:30 a.m. Thursday, the Lodi Police Department made 14 arrests and handled 149 calls for service. The following is a sample of calls received by dispatchers.
12:35 a.m.: The drunken, unlicensed, uninsured driver of a white Chevrolet Astro van was arrested after a collision with a red GMC in the 300 block of Cherry Street.
12:53 a.m.: A man was sleeping behind the Greyhound Bus Station, 24 S. Sacramento St., and refusing to leave. He was arrested for public intoxication.
12:55 a.m.: Someone vandalized Quick Stop, 1721 S. Cherokee Lane, and left in a white Toyota Camry.
1:26 a.m.: A man was possibly holding his girlfriend against her will 45 minutes earlier at Comfort Inn, 118 N. Cherokee Lane. He was arrested on warrants.
Father vs. son
4:41 a.m.: A father and son were fighting outside in the 300 block of North Pleasant Avenue. The father was arrested.
8:58 a.m.: A dazed duck was wandering around with a fish hook attached to his wing in the 1500 block of South Mills Avenue.
9:10 a.m.: A "creepy" man in his 40s was driving around the area in the 1700 block of Lebec Court.
Suspicions lead to arrest
10:28 a.m.: A man in a tan Toyota aroused the suspicion of a resident in the 1200 block of South School Street because the area had some recent burglaries. In the process, police arrested someone for a warrant.
Mother vs. daughter
10:56 a.m.: A mother and daughter were fighting in the 800 block of Tilden Drive. The mother was arrested for battery.
Not a burial
11:28 a.m.: Three men had a shovel and appeared to have something wrapped in a jacket when they got out of a vehicle at Lodi Lake, 1301 W. Turner Road. They headed toward the playground, and a passerby thought the men were going to bury something. Officers arrived and learned that they were merely landscaping.
Stolen tip jar
2:38 p.m.: Two boys ran into Mr. Pickle's Sandwich Shop, 305 S. Hutchins St., and stole the tip jar. They left in a gold Chevrolet Suburban or Tahoe with a big "F" on the rear of the vehicle.
Gas pump smoker
3:04 p.m.: A red-haired man was harassing customers and smoking a cigarette near the gas pumps at USA Gas, 2448 W. Kettleman Lane.
Drunken man, not lawn mower
4:04 p.m.: Someone called police about a lawn mower at Crescent and Lodi avenues. Officers ultimately arrested a man, who was not the caller, for public intoxication.
4:24 p.m.: Boys got into an argument regarding payment for propane at Arco AM/PM, 900 S. Cherokee Lane.
5:02 p.m.: People were fighting in the 800 block of South Central Avenue, one of them possibly had a gun and someone else thought a shot was fired. Officers stopped the suspect's vehicle at Garfield and Tokay streets and learned that a tire iron had been used for vandalism and that no shots were fired. Additionally, one of the suspects was a juvenile on an ankle bracelet.
Unwelcome bald visitor
5:28 p.m.: A slender, balding man was in the basement of a vacant home in the 200 block of South Rose Street.
5:47 p.m.: A black Honda Accord was driving recklessly on Gateway Circle as it followed a shirtless man who had spiked hair and was carrying a bag.
5:50 p.m.: Minor injuries were reported when a vehicle was rear-ended at Kettleman Lane and Hutchins Street.
9:32 p.m.: Someone heard a noise outside Fortune Telling, 623 S. Cherokee Lane, and wanted police to check the yard. They found nothing amiss.
11:27 p.m.: A female was screaming at a baby at Olive Crest Apartments, 434 N. Church St.
