Fatal crash in Clements

Posted: Sunday, February 13, 2005 10:00 pm

A 49-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene just before 3 p.m. Saturday when for unknown reasons his eastbound 1984 Ford van swerved to the left across the westbound lane of traffic and hit three parked cars on the north side of the road in the 18000 block of east Highway 88 in downtown Clements. The van then careened off the parked vehicles and crashed into a sign post before colliding into a building on the west side of the highway. The driver was wearing a seat belt and was the sole occupant of the vehicle. Part of the building is occupied by Michaeljon Woodworker Handmade Furniture. A pedestrian who was struck by flying debris from the accident sustained minor injuries, the California Highway Patrol said. (Jerry R. Tyson/News-Sentinel)
