Jana Van Os, center, Lodi Health cardiopulmonary supervisor, explains to Debbie Cameron how the Cardiopulmonary Department has cut operation costs from more than $80,000 to $25,000 between 2011 and 2012, during the Lean show-and-tell event at the hospital on Wednesday. In preparation for the 2014 health care reforms, staff at the hospital teamed up to streamline operations through the Lean concept, which promotes maximizing use of time and cutting costs and other inefficiencies. Each team was tasked with creating and implementing a strategic plan. Between 2011 and 2012, Lodi Health saved thousands of dollars by cutting unnecessary steps such as transferring linens between two different kinds of carts, and by eliminating overstock supplies.
