A 76-year-old woman was killed after her car left the road and plunged into a ditch on Highway 12 west of Interstate 5 on Sunday afternoon.

Gisela Tarkington, of Vacaville, was driving east on Highway 12 at about 2:13 p.m. Sunday, when her Nissan sedan started drifting to the left near Guard Road, which is just west of Interstate 5, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The car tumbled and overturned into a deep ditch filled with a foot of water, officers said.

The fire department arrived and had to cut open the car to remove the woman, who was taken to Lodi Memorial Hospital, where she later died, officers said.

CHP is still investigating the crash, but alcohol is not believed to be a factor.

Should graduations return to the Grape Bowl?

Lodi Unified leaders are moving Lodi and Tokay high school graduations from the Grape Bowl to the Spanos Center at UOP in Stockton. They cite limited seating, costs and unpredictable weather at the Grape Bowl. But others say graduations at the Grape Bowl are an important Lodi tradition, and one reason many supported renovating the stadium. What do you think?
