Arson was attempted twice this week at a Downtown Lodi tattoo shop.
During the early hours on Sunday morning, a Molotov cocktail was thrown at the front window of Hard Luck Tattoo Shop on Sacramento Street.
Owner Bao Nguyen was alerted to the arson attempt by a friend who noticed the mess on the sidewalk Sunday morning.
The cocktail didn't work. The window was scratched, but didn't break or catch fire.
On Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning, a lit smoke grenade was shoved through the mail slot. It caused a small fire and minor smoke damage to the floor.
"It just makes me feel that somebody doesn't like us," said Nguyen, who has run the shop for 13 years. "I'm not gonna say it's a client or anything. I don't know who it is. I just don't know."
Nguyen said he planned to put in cameras and a rolling security door to prevent further attempts.
"We're just trying to take every precaution now," he said.
The Lodi Police Department took reports on both arson attempts, but no witnesses have come forward. The investigation is ongoing. Contact the police at 209-333-6727.
