Lodi police helped a countywide task force catch a man suspected of stealing a vehicle in Lodi on Wednesday morning.
Around 10 a.m., members of the San Joaquin County Delta Regional Auto Theft Task Force tracked a stolen vehicle to the El Rancho Motel parking lot on the 600 block of North Cherokee Lane, according to Lodi Police Sgt. Doug Chinn.
When officers tried to contact the suspect, they said he fled on foot, running south along Cherokee Lane.
Nearby Lodi police officers joined the foot pursuit.
Officers lost sight of the man when he entered a Lodi mobile home park along Lockeford Street and Highway 99, police said. Within 15 minutes, officers found the man hiding in a small aluminum shed inside the mobile home park, Chinn said.
After the suspect, Jimmy Rayburn, 29, was arrested, officers reported that they found marijuana and a syringe in his possession, Chinn said.
Rayburn injured his leg while jumping a fence and was transported to Lodi Memorial Hospital. He was then moved to San Joaquin County Jail, where he’s being held without bond on suspicion of taking a vehicle without consent, auto theft with a prior felony, resisting arrest, prowling and possession of drug paraphernalia, along with a felony warrant.
