The Sacramento County Coroner's Office has identified the man who was found hanging from a tree at the Cosumnes River Preserve as Samuel Fitzgerald, 19, of Sacramento.
Authorities recovered Fitzgerald's body shortly before noon Monday, according to Sacramento County Sheriff's spokesman Jason Ramos. The body was found by two kayakers at about 5 p.m. Sunday about a mile east of the preserve's visitor center on Franklin Boulevard, west of Galt and north of Thornton. Fitzgerald's arms were reportedly tied behind his back, Ramos said.
Due to the remote location, authorities decided to wait until Monday morning to recover the body, Ramos said.
The Coroner's Office had not determined whether Fitzgerald's death was a homicide, accident or other cause, according to a coroner's spokeswoman.
