Slain Galt Police Officer Kevin Tonn and Sacramento County Animal Control Officer Roy Marcum, both killed in the line of duty in Galt, will be honored this morning at the 14th annual Public Safety and Community Appreciation Breakfast.

This year's event will continue a valued Sacramento tradition of bringing public safety members together with public and elected officials, business and community leaders, and individual citizens to show appreciation for the hard work and dedication of those who help to keep our region safe, according to a press release.

Given the recent number of fallen and wounded officers in Sacramento County and throughout California, this year's event theme is "Sworn to Protect & Serve: Honoring Our Wounded & Fallen Officers."

Family members of both Tonn and Marcum are expected to attend. The breakfast will be held from 7 to 9 a.m. at the Doubletree Hotel in Sacramento.

Tonn was fatally shot by a burglary suspect who then turned the gun on himself in January, while Marcum was killed last year when he was shot through the front door of a residence where he was sent to retrieve pets believed abandoned in an eviction. The suspect in Marcum's shooting remains in Sacramento County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court next Friday.
