Galt elementary school district piloting a new kind of teacher evaluation process
Emily Peckham
“The frequency is important because it gives me a clearer picture of what’s going on in the classroom and how I may be able to better support teachers who are working to make changes with their practice. It also provides more feedback to teachers more often.”
Emily Peckham
Principal, Greer Elementary School
Karen Schauer
“The system that we were using wasn’t really meaningful for everyone who needs to be a part of the process to improve instruction.”
Karen Schauer
Superintendent, Galt Joint Union Elementary School District

Great. Now not only do Galt's elementary teachers receive some of the lowest pay and worst benefits in the region, they have have a Wal-Mart style management system being implemented under the guise of "improvement." Gee--this ought to attract the best and brightest teachers to Galt schools. Wonder if Ms. Schauer clamored for this type of a micro management system when she was in the classroom and what--if any--empirical data she used to deduce that this new approach will do anything but pull principals away from other duties, ultimately requiring MORE administrators? Can't you just hear the request now? She "believes." She should just come out with a mandate to teachers: "Teach to the Bubble Tests because test scores are all that matter! We're watching you." Very surprised the union leadership rolled over on this one. She should work harder with the Board and Galt community to improve pay in the district to attract top talent or at least provide current teachers with a monetary incentive to buy into her pet initiative. Maybe a parcel tax? The fact that a family plan for health care costs Galt teachers over $1000.00 per month on top of their inferior salaries is a farce.

Article stated...It's part of a new teacher evaluation system in the Galt Joint Union Elementary School District aimed at nurturing stronger instruction by each of its 216 teachers
The question is, exactly what is meant by stronger instruction.
My wife was motivated to retire as a teacher because of these evaluations as the real intent was to make sure the teachers were teaching as the state wanted things taught. It took flexibility and judgment away from the teacher as teachers were forced to abandon lesson plans they find that work better for the student.
I hope Galt will let the good teachers be creative and deviate from the state directives thus doing what is best for the students.
