A Lodi man accused of injuring a child while driving intoxicated will return to court later this week for more pretrial hearings.
Jeffery Kenneth Dobretz, 21, faces multiple charges, including hit and run, reckless driving, infliction of great bodily injury and driving under the influence stemming from his alleged actions the morning of Aug. 12.
According to the Lodi Police Department, Dobretz drove his pickup while intoxicated into a residence on the 700 block of Pinot Noir Drive, injuring a 5-year-old girl. The accident occurred at about 4:20 a.m., and Dobretz was apprehended in his home down the street shortly after the crash, police said.
The victim in the accident, Dylen Hill, sustained a broken left leg and is slowly recovering, said her mother, Dawnetta Hill.
Dobretz’s attorney, Mary Ann Bird, said the district attorney’s office has offered a plea bargain in the case. The deal is for a guilty plea to injuring a person while driving intoxicated, she said. The count features enhancements because Dobretz has two previous DUIs, she said.
If Dobretz accepts the deal, he will be sentenced to prison for 6 years and four months, Bird said.
Dobretz will return to court Thursday morning for pre-preliminary conferencing.
He is being held on a $530,000 bond in San Joaquin County Jail.
