A flood warning has been issued by the National Weather Service for the Mokelumne River near Benson’s Ferry and Thornton and Cosumnes River at Michigan Bar. At 8:15 a.m. this morning the water level were at 17.4 feet with minor flooding occuring in low-lying areas. Water levels are considered in flood stage at 17 feet. Some farm local farm roads in the area are closed. Water levels are expected to fluctuate around 17 feet through late this morning and is forecast to rise near 18 feet early Thursday morning and fluctuate at around that height later in the day.
Sacramento County Office of Emergency Services has reported a levee break upstream of New Hope Road, northeast of the town of Thornton. However they are reporting no threat to homes in the area at this time. New Hope Road is currently closed.
