San Joaquin County Office of Education is hosting its 10th annual Autism Collaborative Forum on Saturday.
The forum, entitled "How to Teach Life Skills to Kids with Autism or Asperger's", will feature keynote speaker Jennifer McIlwee Myers, an autism presenter, writer, and person with Asperger's Syndrome. Parents of children with autism spectrum disorders, special education teachers, mainstream teachers whose classes include students with ASDs, occupational therapists, speech pathologists are invited to attend.
Participants will learn real-world techniques for teaching daily living skills to people with autism spectrum disorder. They will also learn to spot and avoid techniques for teaching life skills that do not work well from an "autism point of view," according to a press release.
The forum will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the San Joaquin County Office of Education, Wentworth Education Center, 2707 Transworld Drive, Stockton.
