The Galt City Council meeting was canceled late Tuesday because one of the council members was sick and another had a family emergency.

Council members Donald Haines and Randy Shelton could not make the 7 p.m. meeting. The council was supposed to decide whether to award the contract for the Central Galt Interchange project.

City staff is recommending the council approves the contract with Teichert Construction Inc. The company’s bid of $20.9 million came in $7 million lower than the estimates for the project.

The council will most likely hold a special meeting next week to decide on the contract, City Manager Jason Behrmann said.

The city plans to have a groundbreaking ceremony at 4 p.m. Oct. 5 at A Street and Camellia Way. The public is welcome, and there will be a hot dog barbecue.

Should graduations return to the Grape Bowl?

Lodi Unified leaders are moving Lodi and Tokay high school graduations from the Grape Bowl to the Spanos Center at UOP in Stockton. They cite limited seating, costs and unpredictable weather at the Grape Bowl. But others say graduations at the Grape Bowl are an important Lodi tradition, and one reason many supported renovating the stadium. What do you think?
