Former San Joaquin County Office of Education Deputy Superintendent Gary Del Rossi has announced his candidacy for the office of San Joaquin County superintendent of schools.

County Superintendent Mick Founts recently announced that he will not seek re-election in 2014.

Del Rossi cites his 38 years of experience as a teacher, principal, district office administrator, assistant superintendent of curriculum and deputy superintendent as qualifications for the position.

Recently, he co-authored a published children’s book, “San Joaquin County A-Z,” with Sue de Polo, depicting the history, geography, culture and economy of the county.

Del Rossi also was an adjunct professor for California State University, Stanislaus, more than 10 years. He taught graduate-level classes on leadership and curriculum.
