Dozens of previously laid-off teachers in the Lodi Unified School District received callbacks this week to fill positions in the fall.
Every year, the district offers jobs to teachers who received pink slips, but it does not typically happen this early in the summer. Trustees just approved the 2011-12 budget on Tuesday.
In February, they approved issuing 177 pink slips due to a drop in student enrollment and state funding.
Last year, about 90 teachers were re-hired, but the process didn't start until September, when the union and district agreed on a labor contract.
By Friday afternoon, approximately 30 teachers had been re-hired and re-assigned to classrooms, according to the district's personnel department.
