A parachutist suffered cuts to his face and shoulder while possibly breaking a leg after crashing into a vineyard northwest of Peltier Road and the western Highway 99 frontage road shortly after 1 p.m. Sunday, according to the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office.

The man, who had close to 7,000 parachute jumps, crashed after one of his two parachutes malfunctioned, sheriff's Lt. Mike Jones said. He crashed in the vineyard after using his reserve paracute, Jones said.

"It took a little bit to find him," Jones aid. "The medics found him alert and conscious."

The victim, whom Jones believes is from Herald, was taken by ambulance to Lodi Memorial Hospital. His name was not disclosed, but he told deputies, firefighters and paramedics that he planned to recover from his injuries and resume his parachute jumping, Jones said.

Several sheriff's cars, at least two Woodbridge fire trucks and at least two American Medical Response ambulances responded to the scene.
