Police said a man with a sawed-off shotgun in his waistband was arrested Wednesday night after he attacked Galt officers.

At approximately 9:40 p.m., police officers responded to the 500 block of Popular Street where Reynaldo Vargas, 21, appeared to be acting suspicously, according to a report released by Lt. Jim Uptegrove of the Galt Police Department.

The report stated that upon seeing the officers, Vargas, who is on currently on probation, became combative, attacking Galt police officers by attempting to strike them with his hands and feet.

According to the report, during officers’ attempts to restrain Vargas, a sawed-off 12 gauge shotgun fell from Vargas’ waistband. The report stated officers were able to eventually control Vargas and take him into custody with the assistance of a K-9 unit. According to Uptegrove’s report, the shotgun was found to be fully loaded.

Vargas was transported to Sacramento County Jail and faces charges of possession of a short-barreled shotgun, carrying a concealed firearm, carrying a loaded firearm in a public place, revocation of probation and battery on a police officer.

Hmmm, too bad he didn't point the shotgun at police, this guy will be supported by taxpayers in prison until someone stops him from breathing.
