Hours after giving birth Tuesday, a Lodi mother decided she simply couldn’t afford to keep her baby. So, according to police, she had a family member take the newborn boy to Lodi Memorial Hospital.

The woman did the right thing, police and hospital officials said, and under a state law aimed at protecting babies, she will not face any charges.

This lady definitely did the right thing. I hope more women who become pregnant and don't wish to keep the babies will realize there is a safe way of giving up the baby and will follow this example.

Anything is better than abandoning an infant in a trash dumpster! If this woman had the sense to know that she didn't have the capacity to adequately raise a child in a means acceptable to the rest of the population, or with any chance of success for achievement for the child, then she did the right thing, and anyone who feels otherwise doesn't have the best interest of the child at heart. Sure, just a tad more thought might have been sought out when conception was imminent, but that aside, they did the next best thing they could. Kudos’ to the parents for making the tough but right decision.

I hope the mother and the rest of the family find someone to talk too. Something like this could leave emotional scars that need addressing before they take a more tragic turn.
