The North San Joaquin Water Conservation District needs more time to name its new watermaster and legal representation. Several law firms were interviewed during a two-hour closed session Tuesday, but the district has not finalized which firm will represent it in the future, said director Mark Beck.
The district fired the Stockton-based Herum Crabtree firm in a closed session earlier this year and has been without legal representation since March.
The district also has offered the job of watermaster to an individual, Beck said, but no announcement has been made on whether the hiring has been finalized. The name of the candidate has not been released since it is unclear if the position has been filled, Beck said.
Current district watermaster Pete Weinzheimer announced his intention to retire late last year and said he will remain with the district until a replacement is found.
