Umer Hayat to be freed from jail

Umer Hayat could be free from jail as early as Monday now that a federal judge has ordered his release following a bail hearing today.

The 48-year-old Lodi man has spent nearly a year in Sacramento County Jail following his arrest for lying to federal authorities. On Tuesday, a judge declared a mistrial when jurors could not reach a verdict in Hayat's trial.
