Rep. Ami Bera, D-Elk Grove, returned Tuesday from a congressional delegation visit to Israel. The trip included meetings with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian chief negotiator Dr. Saeb Erekat.
Bera also visited military sites such the Iron Dome air defense system to give him insight into the region while highlighting the strategic partnership between Israel and the United States, according to a news release from Bera’s office.
“I am grateful to have had the opportunity to visit Israel during this important time,” Bera said. “Ensuring the security of our friends in Israel is vital to maintaining stability in the Middle East and promoting democracy throughout the world. Seeing firsthand our shared values and visions for a peaceful future in the Middle East reaffirms my hope that a lasting peace can be found. I applaud the commitment from all sides, including Secretary of State John Kerry, for taking up such a daunting but necessary task.”
The week-long trip also included visits to the Gaza border, the Golan Heights, and various religious and cultural sites.
Bera’s district includes Sacramento County south to Herald, but doesn’t include Galt or Lodi.
