A 17-year-old boy was fatally shot Sunday night in the 400 block of 2nd Street in Galt. There have been no arrests, and police have few leads.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found the teen, identified by the Sacramento County coroner as Ricardo Guerrero of Galt, dead in front of a home, according to a news release.
He had been shot at least one time.
Police said they learned from a 911 call about 9:30 p.m. that several shots were fired in the area of 2nd and E streets.
Witnesses told officers that three men, whom they described as Hispanic, were seen running from the area on foot after the shooting, according to police.
The incident appears unrelated to other crimes at this time, according to Galt Police Lt. Brian Kalinowski. He said the investigation is ongoing, so no further information was available late Monday.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 209-366-7000.
The city’s last homicide was in January, when Galt Police Officer Kevin Tonn was shot and killed by a suspected burglar about a block away from Sunday’s incident. After he shot Tonn in the 200 block of F Street, Humphrey Kenneth Gason Jr., 30, fatally shot himself.
