A preliminary hearing in the criminal case against Galt High School Assistant Principal Robert Rappleye has been set for Nov. 5.

The Angels Camp Police Department recommended to the District Attorney's Office that Rappleye be charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon after a July incident in which they said he and his golfing partners became angry over the pace of play by a golfing husband and wife at an Angels Camp Golf Course.

A verbal argument became physical when Rappleye took a golf club and struck the husband twice, police said. The husband was injured on the left arm and shoulder blade after attempting to block the blows, according to witnesses in the police report.

Rappleye, who appeared in court Monday, was arrested and booked into the Calaveras County Jail that night and released the next morning.

Rappleye, of Elk Grove, is a long-time employee of the Galt Joint Union High School District. He is currently on paid leave.

His next court date is Oct. 16 for a pre-preliminary hearing, according to court records.

Should graduations return to the Grape Bowl?

Lodi Unified leaders are moving Lodi and Tokay high school graduations from the Grape Bowl to the Spanos Center at UOP in Stockton. They cite limited seating, costs and unpredictable weather at the Grape Bowl. But others say graduations at the Grape Bowl are an important Lodi tradition, and one reason many supported renovating the stadium. What do you think?
