Students at Christa McAuliffe Middle School have collected 46 blankets for soldiers deployed in Afghanistan through their "Blanket of Thanks" community service project. Troops use the blankets for insulation and sound proofing in their temporary plywood housing.
The only problem is how to send them.
Martha Snider, a teacher at the school, has worked with the American Legion and Congressman Jerry McNerney to find a solution. Right now, the blankets are stored in McNerney's Pleasanton office.
The school and the congressman's office are looking for a U.S. troop support group that can help pay the postage or find the right connections to ship the blankets. Shipping a box just big enough to hold one or two blankets will cost $116 through the U.S. Postal Service.
