Lodi resident Steve Nelson, 54, was killed in a single-vehicle accident on Highway 92 on Friday.

Nelson was driving northbound on the Highway 280 connector ramp to the state Highway 92 in his big rig. It was around 10:47 p.m. when he crashed, according to the San Mateo County coroner’s office.

The crash, which killed Nelson, shut down the connector ramp. His vehicle was the only vehicle involved.

The California Highway Patrol issued a sig-alert around 11:30 p.m., and the traffic advisory remained in effect through Saturday afternoon.

According to CHP, the crash caused large chunks of concrete and debris to spread across the road.

Should graduations return to the Grape Bowl?

Lodi Unified leaders are moving Lodi and Tokay high school graduations from the Grape Bowl to the Spanos Center at UOP in Stockton. They cite limited seating, costs and unpredictable weather at the Grape Bowl. But others say graduations at the Grape Bowl are an important Lodi tradition, and one reason many supported renovating the stadium. What do you think?
