Lodi police arrested Ryan Christopher Morales on Friday on six counts of second-degree murder in connection with an accident that killed five people, including an unborn baby, in Lodi on Oct. 22, 2013.
Morales was arrested at a Sacramento hospital, where he was receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the collision on Ham Lane in front of Lodi Middle School.
Morales has since been moved to local area hospital to continue his recovery.
According to a news release, his injuries have prevented the Lodi Police Department from booking Morales into a jail. However, Morales will be booked into the San Joaquin County Jail after his doctors clear him for incarceration. He will remain under guard until the time of his booking.
In addition to the six counts of second-degree murder, Morales faces six counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. The San Joaquin County District Attorney’s office may consider additional charges after a review of the completed investigation is conducted.
