Along with Christmas, Easter and Good Friday are the times when most people attend church. Some attend services only on those days. Good Friday, taking place tomorrow, commemorates Jesus' death on the Cross, while Easter Sunday celebrates His Resurrection.
In Downtown Lodi, First United Methodist Church will have its traditional community Good Friday service at noon featuring 19 pastors. The church is at 200 W. Oak St. at Church Street.
Barring last-minute needs at their own churches, the following pastors are scheduled to participate at the community service: Mike Abdollahzadeh, Lodi Avenue Baptist; Brent Brusett, English Oaks Seventh-day Adventist; Bill Cummins, Bear Creek Community; Jack Dawson, United Congregational Christian; Chad Donley, Ham Lane Church of Christ; Matt Duerr, Zion Reformed; David Hill, Grace Presbyterian; Perry Kallis, Temple Baptist; Alan Kimber, First United Methodist; Sarah Meckler, St. Paul Lutheran; Patrice MucCular, New Covenant Tabernacle; Steve Newman, First Baptist; David Rails, Lodi Community; Kevin Suess and Rod Suess, Vinewood Community; Chris Townsend, Emanuel Lutheran; Brandon Ware, St. Anne's Catholic; Capt. Dan Williams, Lodi Corps Salvation Army.
Newman will lead a special "clergy choir." Proceeds from the offering will benefit the Lodi Salvation Army single-parent units.
